Babcock awarded significant FM contract amendment

Babcock has been awarded a new contract amendment by Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), integrating the delivery of hard Facilities Management (FM) services on five training establishments into the Regional Prime Contract South West (RPC SW).

Valued at approximately £33 million, the new contract amendment will see Babcock's Infrastructure business deliver hard FM services at HMS Collingwood, HMS Excellent, HMS Raleigh, HMS Sultan and Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth. The new contract, which commenced on 1 July 2011, includes revised terms to ensure flexibility for changing Defence requirements.

Bringing delivery of these services into RPC SW will provide added value to the MOD through savings generated from economies of scale and revised service levels. A significant saving has also been made through the reduction in tendering costs by using an existing market-tested contract.

Delivered through the Debut joint venture partnership, the RPC SW contract already delivers estate management services to almost 60 establishments, which encompasses some 200 separate parcels of land, within the South West region. Within these sites there are approximately 9,000 assets ranging from barrack blocks, galleys and offices to infrastructure, sports pitches and reservoirs.

David Plester, Managing Director of Babcock's Infrastructure business, commented; "Working in collaboration with DIO, our team has worked hard to demonstrate value for money in bringing the delivery of hard FM services for these sites into the RPC SW contract. I would like to congratulate our team in meeting this challenging eight-week mobilisation programme. We will continue to work jointly with DIO to deliver our services in support of operational outputs for our customers within these prestigious training establishments."
